Emil and the Detectives: costumes

This post provides information for the families of students who will be performing in Emil and the Detectives next month.

With a cast of 95, it is not feasible for us to provide complete costumes for all performers, and so we are asking that parents help to provide certain costume elements.

Please note that we are not expecting you to spend lots of money: it should be possible to acquire all the costume elements required both cheaply and easily.

The costume requirements for each group of students is as follows. Please speak to your child as they will know which group they fall into.

  • The Children (named parts): please use the attached ‘lookbook’ to create a 1930s-style costume for your child. This lookbook includes information about colours, styles, etc.
  • The Adults (named parts): please provide a white, cream, beige or light grey formal shirt, a conservative plain-coloured tie (grey/black) and black formal shoes. Hats of a suitable time period are optional.
  • Lead Ensemble: please provide a white, cream, beige or light grey formal shirt, a conservative plain-coloured tie (grey/black) and black formal shoes. Hats of a suitable time period are optional.
  • Ensemble A and Ensemble B: please use the attached lookbook to create a 1930s-style costume for your child. This lookbook includes information about colours, styles, etc.
  • The exceptions to these instructions are Emil Tischbein, Pony the Hat and Ida Tischbein: further information about these characters’ costumes will be sent directly to the relevant families.
